Product Description

Book Description

A humorous narrative of two young men rambling their way
across Southern England. At times surreal, at times philosophical, at times
just funny, this book explores what 250 miles can do to four legs and two
human minds. History and information on the Greensand Way and other
footpaths melds neatly with the conversations and even the dreams conjured
up in a damp sleeping bag in the middle of nowhere.

From the Author

This is the second travelogue by Adam Colton. The first
(England and Wales in a Flash) being a partnership with his father Roger,
attempting to visit every lighthouse around the mainland coast of England
and Wales. Mud, Sweat and Beers takes the same narrative format and gives
it a slightly surreal twist.

I'd like to echo the views expressed by fellow reviewer Riddelske - he's said it all really! This is a great, madcap adventure story and Adam Colton, supposed navigator on the epic journey, is not too embarrassed to admit to a considerable number of map-reading errors that add several miles to their route. As you might expect from the author of "Seven Dreams of Reality" there are a few dream sequences dotted here and there. I particularly admire the way these two chaps take such a casual approach to where they're going to camp for the night - there is no carefully-planned itinery of official campsites; they somehow manage to find somewhere to put the tent up, light the stove and get the supper going in no time at all. As you'll guess from the title, there are quite a lot of pub stops on the way, which add to the entertainment value. A great read. Paul H

I was intrigued by the title when I bought this book. I picked up my copy in a pub which was on bookshelf for general reading and purchased the book. I ended up ignoring my friend for most the evening. After the first few pages I found it hard to put down. It was a story of two friends travelling from Hamstreet in Kent to Hamstreet in Somerset. This interested me particularly as living in Kent I know a lot of the places mentioned in the early chapters. I used to enjoy walking so it was a bit reminiscent of my childhood. The way it is written makes it very true to life like a fly on the wall documentary. I could relate to the conversations held in the book between two friends, some of them very amusing. There are a lot of travel books out there but few that combine walking and humour in this way. I rate this book 5 stars. Creative cover. Interesting read.. I have one other book by this author (Seven Dreams Of Reality) which is totally different but in some ways seems to compliment this volume and made me appreciate the two different styles of writing.
