Book Description

7 Oct 2002
Mucky Duck is a very special duck - he likes painting, cooking, playing football and he also likes getting VERY MUCKY! And one way or another he always seems to get his friend Oliver very mucky too. Children will love the repetitive line 'O you Mucky Duck!' that appears frequently within the pages. And Neal Layton has used collage to great effect to create some really messy pages our only advice is to dive right in. Perfect for reading aloud for the 3+ age-group.

More About the Author

I've been a children's author for 27 years, and my writing ranges from picture books for the very young to fiction for pre-teens. When children ask me if I've ever written for adults I say that I don't know enough words. They're inclined to believe me, and that I'm 92! (I'm not.) KNOCK KNOCK, WHO'S THERE? is 27 years old in 2013 and still going strong, so I think I can say that it's a classic. As is SHHH! - published in 1991 - which children absolutely adore. I was proud to win the Smarties Gold Award for SPILLED WATER, my novel about a Chinese girl sold into domestic slavery, and I'm proud too of my subsequent books about children of the world who lead difficult lives - BROKEN GLASS, TORN PAGES and BITTER CHOCOLATE. I've always got a book or two on the go, and I guess I always will.

I found a copy of this by chance when my son was about 2 and both my kids loved it. They both join in whenever I read it "Oh, you mucky duck".

5.0 out of 5 stars My Daughter's Favorite Book! 18 Sep 2006
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This has been my daughter's favorite book since she was 2 and a half. We read it several times a day. The book is about a little boy who owns a duck, and what they get up to each day. It tells of different things that they like to do that also leeds to them getting into a mess. There is a page on cooking, painting, playing ball and digging in the garden. All of these invole Mucky Duck getting Dirty and at the end she has to have a bath. Great if your child is not thrilled with bathtime!

Love the book. We borrowed it from the local library and had to purchase it ourselves. My kids love the part-"Oh you Mucky Duck!" My little 8 month old got a kick out of it and my 3 yr. old. GREAT book!

my daughter is 2 and a half right now and we rented this book from the library... we had to renew it because she loved it so much! we read it several times a day while we had it and my husband had to take it back during her nap time so that she wouldn't see. when she woke up she was so sad that "mucky duck had to go back to her home." we haven't had it in weeks and she STILL talks about it. that's why i'm here looking to buy it. great kid's book and very short so it's ok if you read "just one more book."
