I love this book because it's so touching. The story is sbout a girl who stops talking after a traumatic experience and finds comfort at her new bording school. The characters (such as the teacher and fellow classmates)unconditional warmth, patience and kindness towards the girl is lovely. The book is continously interesting. It has thoughtful insights of life through the eyes of a teenager who doesn't talk but it doesn't hinder her communication with others instead it treasures the beautiful relationships that come from it.

For all Year 9 girls 31 July 2006

I am the mother of a Yr9 girl and this book spoke to her and to me about the feelings experienced by girls at this age in the UK as well as Australia. I'm so glad I chose this book for my daughter and read it myself too. I'd recommend it to any Yr8-10 girl and to any mother with girls coming up to that age. When my son (Yr7) read it, he said boys feel like this too. It deserves its "Australian Book of the Year" prize a hundred times over. Well done, Mr Marsden!

I read this book in a day, due to the fact that I just couldn't put it down. The book kept me interested the entire time, which is why I would call this book a real page turner. John Marsden know to describe everything really well, getting you so far that you want to know what is going on, even though he only provides information little by little. It's not until the end you really know what is going on... One of the better books I have read this year!
