About the Author

Paula set up her own building company several years ago when she realised that most women would prefer to hire a woman to work in their house. Her father was a master builder and carpenter, and her interest in construction started at the age of 7 when she first picked up a chisel in his workshop. She has since gained a BA and MA in Interior Design. MRS FIXIT is also the name of Paula's highly successful South London company.

Patronising nonsense 25 Oct 2005
Format:Hardcover
I really regret paying out for this book. It was rather patronising and the author seemed more concerned with delivering one liners & double entendres than delivering what the title offered.
I seriously doubt that this woman is/was a builder, she is just trying to cash in on the success of the american (original) mrsfixit. Her tips were awful & I for one wouldn't trust her.

Do yourself and your purse a favour and buy "Mrs. Fixit's Easy Home Repair ~ by Terri McGraw"; amazon stock it.

Disappointing 22 May 2009
Format:Hardcover
I was a little disappointed by this book. It contains a few useful tips, a lot of anecdotes about a Scottish aunt but just not enough basic content to be really useful to the beginner. I wanted to do some research about painting a room. I read the book through; then, I carefully read the section on decorating a few times, but I still am not sure where to start. I feel that I have a bit more of an inkling as to the overall process, but I would need to read another much more comprehensive volume in order to have the confidence to undertake even a small project.

This was a great read for me, there are too many macho men only DIY books with complicated procedures and industry talk and jargon for my liking. This book really helps with basic stuff in a basic way and is highly recommended for beginners men or women who need to be given guidance for confidence to tackle some of the basic tasks at home!!!! Thanks
