5.0 out of 5 stars Emma Darwin, 21 Mar 2009
By Mrs. Janet Chapman (Kent, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A delightful book with a potted history of family life at Downe House as well as original recipes by Emma. Each recipe has been tried and tested and brought up to date for the modern day cook. The description at the start of each also gives insight into life in the Victorian kitchen. Some recipes are shown in Emma's original handwriting giving a very personal feel. A book to be treasured with recipes that work even after 150 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just another recipe book..., 20 Mar 2009
By Jason di Senerchia (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
Providing a wonderful insight into the lives of Emma & Charles Darwin this book makes a fabulous addition to your collection of cookery books. However, there is more to this book than just a collection of nostalgic recipes rather a page-turner which takes the reader on a culinary journey back in time to the Victorian era. The authors have beautifully defined the lives of this extraordinary couple at the top of English society. A delightful read - I can't wait for the next instalment!
