Product Description

The complete first series of the Dublin-set sitcom depicting the life and times of Mrs Agnes Brown (played by writer/creator Brendan O'Carroll) and her unruly brood. In this series, preparations for Maria (Fiona O'Carroll)'s wedding are well underway and Mrs Brown is looking forward to the upcoming nuptials. Unfortunately, the groom is less than enamoured with the whole idea. The episodes comprise: 'The Mammy', 'Mammy's Secret', 'Mammy's Merchandise', 'Mammy Rides Again', 'Mammy of the Groom' and 'Mammy's Miracle'.

Synopsis

Brilliantly funny Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll stars as out-spoken Irish mammy Agnes Brown in this brand new comedy series that aired on BBC One. Join Agnes Brown as she indulges in her favourite pastime - meddling in the lives of her six children! Whether she’s tackling love, life, death or dealing with the in-laws - Mrs Brown is one mammy that you don’t mess with. Prepare for a riot of bad behaviour - It’s a little bit rude, a little bit crude and hysterical fun for everyone.

Very funny series but was extremely disappointed to find no subtitles on a BBC dvd. Having lost most of my hearing due to illness some years ago I rely on subtitles to be able to follow films and TV. I don't expect them to be missing on a modern programme.

You know, in the midst of awful world events..earthquakes, tsunamis, Lybia, the recession...Scottish football...I find it very healing to turn off BBC News and sit down instead in the company of Mrs. Brown and laugh my big fat head off. Yes, it's peurile, childish and lavatorial, but it is also extremely 'feckin' funny!

As Mrs. Brown would say ...'Meh-heeeeeeeeeh!'

I had never previously heard of Brendan O'Carrol, but I leapt from ignorance to being a fan in about a minute.

Although very different from Father Ted, Mrs Brown has the same maverick, off-the -wall humour which catches you off guard.

The fact that Mrs Brown is acted by a bloke is never milked for laughs. There is absolutely no echo of the pantomime dame or even Mrs Doubtfire.

I can sum up MRS BROWN'S BOYS by using the old Irish phrase "It is all right, if you like laughing."

This is an excellent series, it has similarities with the comedy series Bread which
featured the Boswell family only this is funnier, it contains some fairly strong language so not for young kids, although it is not vulgar, for instance Mrs Brown who is a male by the way says feck a lot but this is not considered a swear word in Ireland bit similar to saying frick in England. Mrs Browns gender does not seem to matter, you just accept him as a female without really noticing, it is about a family living in Dublin where they all have issues of one kind or another and Mrs Brown is hilarious in sorting things out.I would say it is the funniest show on TV.

Hawkeye.

Forgot to mention I believe this show is filmed in front
of a live studio audience, so no canned laughter. I think this adds
to its appeal.

I accidentally came across Mrs Brown's Boys when a friend sent a clip as an 'email funny'. At the time I thought it was a little off the wall, but as the Beeb hadn't promoted it very well - at least it had passed me by - I had never heard of it. But what a revelation. This has to be the funniest comedy on the telly for years. Personally, I rank it up there with Only Fools & Horses and Fawlty Towers. It is brilliantly written by Brendan O'Carroll, who plays the lead, with a supporting cast mostly made up of his real life family. His timing and execution is superb, his unscripted ad libs are quick fire (even the cast can't help laughing), and the talent in his writing brings tears of laughter. Since watching this DVD of the first series I have recommended this to anyone who enjoys a good laugh. With the second series now screened on BBC1 it is compulsive viewing for me. Give your funny bone a treat and enjoy the humour. If it doesn't make you laugh aloud, you must be a very strange fish indeed! There is also a bonus disc which includes out-takes; studio audience 'messages'; introductions of the cast members; and an interview with Brendan O'Carroll. Enjoy!

Mrs Brown's Boys is the best comedy series I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I actually watched this on R.T.E. and BBC1 and each time I watched it I still laughed as much as the first time I seen it. I bought this from Amazon as I knew it would be a DVD set which I would never tire of watching plus the fact my Dad is a huge fan so I bought him a copy of it too. He says it is the perfect medicine for depression as there is no way you could watch it and not find any of it funny.
Each time I watch the Dvd set, the show is as good as the first time I seen them as the jokes are so good along with all the actors. Yes Brendan has used some of the same old jokes of his previous shows he had out on DVD/video but if it "aint broke why fix it?". He knows what the audience wants and loves so he made a more up to date version of his old shows which I do believe should have been made more clear for other purchasers who did not see this show on television when it was broadcasted recently. As I know there will be a lot of people who would have seen this show on stage or when it was previously released on video/DVD release.Mrs Brown's Boys - Series One (7-Disc Box Set) [DVD]. Personally I do believe this should not put you off watching this as though this is based on his old show he has made it more for the 21st century and it really is worth the watch.
One thing I really liked about this show, was that each of the actors were all so good and everything was taped live so therefore what show the audience seen in the theatre that night was the same one we seen via the boradcasting and the released DVD set.
