5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing LP - kept simple 29 Mar 2011
By Sam
Format:Audio CD
When I first got 'Trouser Jazz' on CD I was always disappointed as it ended, as I would never experience anything that original and so great to listen to again. That was until I heard 'Keep It Unreal'. That sustained me for a while but soon enough I needed more.

Being Mr Scruff's first album this is, as some people have commented, less intricate than some of his later work, but the heavy bass beats, ambient chill out tracks and kooky bouncy samples work a treat! Turn the volume right up and the bass up even higher to really see the benefit from this album.

I still prefer 'Trouser Jazz' over all and 'Ninja Tuna' and 'Bonus Bait' have their merits but the quality of this album is shown by the fact that on the day I received it in the post, I put it into my car stereo and listened to it every day for over three weeks, sometimes 3 or 4 times over in one day!

I must for the Mr Scruff officionado or the lover of jazzy trip-hop and electronica.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a let down... 8 Dec 2005
By JP Ager
Format:Audio CD
Compared to the excellence of 'Trouser Jazz',and 'Keep it unreal', this album is a real let down. Aside from a couple of interesting tracks ('Chicken in a box' being the best),the rest is just a mixture of rather annoying noises stuck together.I was really looking forward to listening to this album, but after just one play, i think i'll stick to Mr Scruffs more defined, and interesting, later efforts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for Mr. Scruff lovers!! (or anyone...) 3 Jan 2006
Format:Audio CD
This CD gets better every time I listen to it. At first I wasn't sure of it, but I gave it the listening Mr.Scruff deserves, and found that this album is actually great. This, being his first release, is quite experimental, Scruff finding his feet, quite diverse, very interesting development, I actually prefer this to 'Trouser Jazz', his lastest album.
The opening song 'sea mammle' is a bouncy catchy tune which I think opens the album well. The second song 'Tubby Mechanical Friend' is less bouncy, more chilled, then 'Bass Baby' brings the album alive, into full swing, (turn the bass up to full!!) 'chicken in a box' is a fun tune that follows well, and is a scruff classic, again turn up the bass and dance! 'Night Time' 'Limbic Funk'are happy litlle numbers to get your toes wiggling! 'Bobby's Jazz Pony', along with 'Crips' are may favourite tracks on this album, spacy tunes that are good for chilling out to, and with 'Jazz Potato' in between them, it is the perfect way to end this CD.
A must for any Mr.Scruff fan.
