5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and great sound 20 Dec 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I am really enjoying this cd. Most of it is new to me but it's typical British teen stuff from the late 50's and early 60's. Whilst generally preferring the American originals of the covers, there was a certain charm and innocence to British covers in that period which I find irresistible.

If you are a fan of that era, this is a great cd to have. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Parnes had the right idea 9 Jan 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A forerunner to Simon Cowell, many of the singers on this set were in their late teens, there are early signs of talent in the vocals, some were unlucky to be given dreadful songs, some had hits but the better singers like Peter Wynne and Duffy Power didn't quite make it. Marty Wilde had a strong voice, tinged with an American sound, Billy Fury had a weak but appealing voice, Larry had a good looking bunch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Short Changed 16 Jan 2013
By Amazon Customer TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This 2 disc set of early British artists didn't set my pulse racing as it should have done. The packing is sparse - the discs are housed in a foldout card sleeve that the cd's slip into. The liner notes are spread across the slotted centre, small and useless. I agree with a fellow reviewer 'Dave' that apart from the major artists the rest of the tracks are poor to average at best. I must mention there are couple of 'Live' tracks (one on each disc) that may interest some collectors - one is of Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Billy Fury and Joe Brown singing, the other is Dickie Pride with Cliff. The sound quality is good if quite low I had to turn my volume control up a couple of notches. Overall, for die hard completists. Not recommended overall.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Good 14 Jan 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this CD hoping that it might contain some hitherto unknown (to me) gems of British r'n'r. Only positive thing I can say about it is that the sound quality is excellent. It consists of two discs contained in slots in a card sleeve with minimal sleeve notes. In fact not only are the notes minimal, they're also gobbledegook as two columns of text have been transposed and so read out of order. For an expanded version of the sleeve notes one is directed to the RockHistory website. Unfortunately my security programme identifies this as a 'known bad site' and doesn't want me to access it. So no joy there ! Apart from the tracks by the Viscounts which I didn't have, the only tracks I liked I already have many times over. The unknowns range from dire to mediocre. So if you've already got the excellent Marty Wilde, Billy Fury & Dickie Pride tracks for example, you won't want the rest ! Put into some decent packaging and with ample sleeve notes it might just be acceptable, but not in its present form.

If, like myself, you are looking for those hard to find british fifties tracks, then this cd is really one for your collection. The sound is first class, and the mix of tracks could not be better.
