Reviews

From Amazon.co.uk

Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and director Doug Liman gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe the Anti Hype 25 Nov 2012
Format:DVD
I really don't get these negative comments for Mr and Mrs Smith at all and am wondering if these people have had a complete humour by pass before inserting the silver disk into the DVD machine. First off this film rather surprisingly is incredibly insightful about the politics involved in marriage. There are a number of brilliantly observed scenes where the couple are discussing décor or their relationship with a therapist which have the complete ring of truth about them. All this is shoe horned into a ridiculous plot involving two spies who are married but don't know the other has the same job. People who criticise the film for this ridiculousness really shouldn't even bother watching it because part of what makes this great is the stupid premise. It turns into a film take on the great cartoon strip from Mad magazine. "Spy vs Spy". Their attempts to kill each other become more and more ludicrous and the body count just keeps on mounting. Has there ever been a film where death and destruction is this much fun?
It's also possibly the most subversive "popcorn" movie I have ever seen. The fight in the kitchen has to be one of the funniest fight scenes since Trinity hung up his hat. There is a sequence where Pitt is kicking his wife seemingly to death behind the kitchen counter and it is hilarious. It works because this is a complete fantasy in which the wife gives at least as good as she gets ("Whose the Daddy now"?) and both spouses are incredible killing machines who happen to realise whilst they are trying to destroy each other that they are madly in love.
In summation, it's a bloody good laugh, so there.

Great action film from beginning to end. Better than the recent James Bond Films. Good entertainment, you can watch over & over again and still see bits you missed the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 27 Jan 2013

This film is brilliant. I love the pairing of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and the fact that they both get to use lots of guns. The relationship between the characters is also very good.

Hang-gliding between skyscrapers on steel pulleys, re-decorating your suburban home with pump-action shotguns, abseiling down the outside of a city hi-rise with a whip and a wire from your handbag, planting bomb detonators under the elevator your cheating husband's coming up in...

Let's be blunt about it - "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" rocks. In fact it may well be the ultimate 'guilty pleasure' on the BLU RAY format. It's a properly decadent big ass funky old slice of Hollywood entertainment...and it's bloody funny too at times - even oddly touching in places (Angie getting drunk on the floor of her offices when she learns of her husband's not-dissimilar day job).

And into the bargain you get two of the sexiest people on the planet (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) actually falling in love with each other as they film - and with the very real sensation that neither can keep their hands off those lithesome nether-regions in-between takes - let alone keep them in their CIA-issued flak jackets. And all they have to do is get through marriage and life without killing each other. Ah shucks - sure aren't we all doing that.

And on it goes to the hot pair of them smirking in front of a marriage counsellor having clearly renewed more than their TV licence...

However fans of the dynamic duo should note that the 'US' BLU RAY on 20th Century Fox is REGION A LOCKED - so it won't play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).

Stick to the UK version. It has top quality picture quality - it's on the '2 for 10' price list - and it's got more pizazz in its assassin's marriage than a Bowie Knife in a Tango Teacher's garter...

5.0 out of 5 stars fun film 31 Oct 2013
Format:DVD
This is a very enjoyable film with a good cast and some great action scenes. Angelina and Brad are great together, I really dont know why this has so many negative reviews which I can only assume have been left by team Aniston...
