This an extremely charming album. Ok, it was a concept album, released at a time when punk was doing its thing. But if you like creative melodic, warm rock music, this album will charm you too.
But it has much more than charm. The instrumentals are great, particularly Coniston Water, and the track leading into it, The Slater's Waltz is just beautiful. And with this purchase, you get the original album - the one the band wanted you to hear, and the version the record company thought the more commercial. Both are great.
Even though mid seventies music was `my era' I missed Stackridge first time round. And what a miss it was. Never mind, I now have all albums, and they are all wonderful despite, or because of their variety. Dont miss out on this fantastic English band. You hear so many `genre' tags applied to Stackridge, but if you like highly creative, folk, prog, rock, with really strong enduring melodies, just buy this, and then buy all other Stackridge albums. You'll be so glad you did.
