Product Description

Synopsis

There can be few anglers brought up in the 50s and 60s who have not been formatively influenced by Mr Crabtree. The cartoon character created by Bernard Venables was the very personification of the perfect fisher-father. Every boy dreamed of being in Peter's boots, of being taken to the riverbank, to a pre-baited swim, to fish for "Glass-Case" specimens with this master angler. These experiences are as real and relevant to today's angler as they were when Mr Crabtree first appeared in the Daily Mirror, and later in book form in "Mr Crabtree goes fishing" (1950). Apart from new cover artwork, this edition is published entirely in its original form with no changes to text or illustration. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I had a copy of this book when I was about 10, almost 35 year ago and remember drawing all the fish that are discussed in the book. This book both excites and educates and somehow encapculates the magic and excitement of fishing. It's a great book for any young boy learning the art of fishing.

Had this book as a boy of 10 and I am now 63, delighted to find it is still available and got a new one asap. Re-learned an awful lot I had forgotten, a must for beginners.

I was given this book by my Uncle in the late 1950s. Goodness knows where the original went over the years. Then I had the updated one with Fred Taylor's additions.
But this one - a faithful reprint of the original even down to the 5 shilling price tag on the cover, is absolutely wonderful.
It brings back a different time of life, but is still interesting from the fishing point of view.
And the artwork is magnificent.
