Excellent performances of 1st Mozart opera,
By
This review is from: Mozart, Vol.28 - Finta Semplice (Audio CD)
Excellent performances of Mozart's first opera seria. Comes right after Apollo and Hyacinthus. Written when Mozart was only 12 years old. Essential to see from where Mozart began. Mozart at 12 was already very technically competant in the demads of the theatre and opera. The score however was corrected by his father but is all the same true Mozart and contains some exceptional arias especially those for Rossina. The overture is actually K.45 Symphony in Bb Major written before Mozart had any idea about La Finta Semplice. The music of the opera itself is remarkable in how such a young Mozart was able to write instrumental music which so very well compliments the voce. It is of course a juvenile work in that it lacks the character development through musical means of his later works but all the same does in a remarkable way already presage them. It's actually an incredible work for a 12 year old boy. If you have any doubts that Mozart was and is incredible listen to this work.

I love all of Mozart's operas,

Sure the "mature" operas are "better," but ahhh, those delightful early ones. Like a face full of sunshine. I aim to buy them all. This performance is wonderful so I'd recommend it.

Pure delight,

This review is from: Mozart, Vol.28 - Finta Semplice (Audio CD)
One would not expect very much from very early Mozart, and it does not stand up to the later masterpieces. That said, this opera is a very pleasant as well intriguing work, as delightful as any contempoary buffa operas with which I am familiar with the possible exception of those by Haydn. This is a very good recording with strong voices and a good flow and presentation of the music.

Fun comedy, clear and delightful.......,
By Tanis "Tanis Yvonne Somerville" - Published on Amazon.com

Schreier's version replaces the earlier, Orfeo full-priced set from Leopold Hager, particularly when it comes at mid-price on two discs instead of three. The digital recording is wonderfully clear, with a fine sense of presence, capturing the fun of the comedy. Ann Murray has never sung more seductively in Mozartthan here as Giacinta, and the characterful Barbara Hendricks is a delight in the central role of Rosina.
