I have many recordings of this Schubert Fantasy (inc. Lupu/Perahia, Britten/Richter, Lewis/Osborne, and Brendel/Crochet) and, for me, this surpasses them all. As can happen with Schubert, the initial haunting melody can fail to sustain interest throughout a long work but the Labeque sisters seem to have a rapport and ability to spark ideas off each other, so that the interest never flags. Their range of emotion and dynamics is truy remarkable. The Mozart coupling is also fine but does not reach quite the same originality of interpretation.

I cannot understand why this cd has been overlooked by other reviewers, as I beleve it is a 'must hear' version.

Purchased for the Schubert initially, but the Mozart is also a wonderful piece. Both played in a way that made you believe they were on an emotional journey as they played,

I knew the two featured works, but this performance by the sisters Labeque has taken me to a different level.
The virtuosity of these piano players is beyond belief. Since I received this cd, I must have listened to it at least 20 times: I cannot get enough of it...!
An absolute pleasure from "Mozart and Schubert, and a excellent rendition from the Labeque sisters.

as a piano teacher, I am always looking for samples of truly beautiful technique and mastery of the instrument - found it at last, and will be giving copies to my students as end of year prizes. I recommend this for listeners who like and appreciate the piano - and only the piano!

Katia and Marielle Labeque in pure Viennese mood 21 Oct 2013
By P. Adrian - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The F minor Fantasy for piano four hands D 940 has been largely recorded during the last decades. Among this plethora of versions I think this one - due to Labeque sisters - stands as one of the most appealing reading ever, along with that recorded by Radu Lupu & Murray Perahia. The fabulous match – both in technical and musical terms - of Katia and Marielle simply shines here with so much style and passion that one is seduced instantly by the resulting proceedings. They added from Schubert’s catalogue a gracious Andantino varie in B minor D 823 to showcase their romantic Viennese fervour. For the second part of the program, the celebrated Mozart Sonata for two pianos in D major K 448 is chosen. The same passion of playing, the same vivacity and wit exhibit Labques in these purely classical pages. The CD is recorded under their own label (KML) with a natural and warm sound, all featuring the exceptional artistry of Katia & Marielle Labeque.
