What an outstanding version of Mozart's Requiem! Sir Colin, through immense care and attention to detail, produces a superb result. He combines the various forces, each of which are outstanding, with ease. Spine-chilling stuff!

Mozart's Requiem is one of my favorite pieces of music. Something I have been passionate about for years. I bought this recording on the strength of the orchestra and conductor and was sadly disappointed with it.
The orchestra and choir seem, somehow, to be disjointed and performing apart. This rendition lacks the punch, fire and brimstone that you expect from the Requiem, and in places feels a bit sloppy. That said I don't think the recording itself helped the performance.
If you want a copy of the Requiem to stir the soul I would choose a different version.

I am a huge fan of Mozart and sing in a choir myself but we've never produced results like these!! This is a recording to measure all other Requiem's against. The music flows with ease throughout and the sound is fabulous with each part perfectly audible. A truly beautiful disc of music.

Despite what the Penguin guide suggest, this reading of Mozart's Requiem leaves one feeling flat at the end. (Unless that is a deliberate idea.)
The sound itself is LSO lives usual high standard but the performance itself, particularly from the solists, is far short of the competition. Yes we are spoilt in this work. There are so may recordings with stellar soloists, choirs and orchestras but this one could have been made at any provincial choral society concert.
My personal recommendation would be the Marriner recording from the 1980's which is so well balanced. If that doesn't appeal and you want to be adventurous then go for Barenboim's reading which is one of EMI's Great Recordings series.
