3.0 out of 5 stars Mozart by the books, 20 Jun 2010
By Anti-Puck "Ryan" - Published on Amazon.com
I went out on a limb here and bought this version after listening to the Lacrimosa. Highlighting the vocals and the very' chamber' feel to the music. Compared to (for example) Solti's 200 year anniversary recording, Nigel Short's version feels very restrained and measured. The chief benefit to this minimalism is that the beautiful voices are controlled and clear. In many tracks, you decidedly feel the rhythmic pulse underlying in a nearly mechanical way. It will certainly appeal to people looking to hear how the score might have been played without the emotional interpretation of modern conductors.

That said, because of this the music never leaves the comfortable realm of the score. Since it's Mozart, not a terrible thing, but I feel after 200 years we could have figured out a little something more to add.
