Perfection jades us. Too much exposure to masterly performances of Bach, Mozart, Bruckner et al weakens one, much like being Frosty the Snowman in Miami or Marble Bar. Accordingly, it is time to temper the dynamic. It is time to initiate a search of the Ten Worst Recordings ever made. Reader, two slots have already been taken with brio:

Wagner - Orchestral Works

Bruckner: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Wab 105, "Tragic"; "Church of Faith"; "Pizzicato"

A third is at hand. Destiny comes a'callin' for anyone christened Maximianno Cobra. Trust me: this guy delivers in spades.

Hitherto, the worst performance of Mozart's Requiem known to me is Uncle Karl Bohm's tractor-ride-on-the-potato-farm from 1970 (Mozart: Requiem). It is near-lethal in its lugubrious tempi. I thought it would never be surpassed in its sluggishness: how wrong I was. A comparison is in order:

Introit & Kyrie - KB 9'39" (overall - with no track break) - MC 7'26" & 4'14"
Dies Irae KB 1'59 MC - 3'54" so much for Allegro Assai.

To all music lovers,

On one hand I can name my favorite conductors. They are Furtwängler, Knappertsbusch, Klemperer, Mengelberg, Golovanov, and one you may not be familiar with that is Maximianno Cobra.

I Know nothing about him personally except that he is a musical genius. Like the others I listed he is totally unique. There is simply no one like him and I mean this in the most complimentary way. His way is to bring out the tragic elements of music in a manner I have never heard before. He conducts the great works very romantically and allows us to experience the tragic element in music better than anyone I have heard before.

Some know nothings have posted cruel reviews of his musical style. My advice is to buy the cds or purchase them as downloads and then you be the judge.I believe you will not only not be disappointed but the performances will come to you as a musical revelation. Purchase them for yourselves and find out.
