another recent amazon purchase as keen to expand my piano cd collection into mozart after debussy, shostakovich, messiaen, janacek, bach, bartok etc. this naxos cd dating back to 1988 (i think it is ) of Mozart piano sonatas vol.2 offers spirited sometimes muscular playing from jeno jando the hungarian stalwart of the naxos label (see his large recordings list for the label) . this cd offers many many repeated hours of listening pleasure both for the rich variety of moods and inventiveness by this sublimely melodic composer, and for the articulate pianism itself here.
the recording is natural and lifelike with detailed cd booklet notes explaing the composer and the four sonatas here :
k.311, k.332, k.545 and the late majestic k.570.
if sometimes Jando overplays and over projects lacking some delicacy (when compared to Uchida or Schiff for example) - he plays the works here with infectious enthusiasm and admirable technical address. recommended particular at present bargain price before perhaps going deeper into the music with Uchida,Brendel,Schiff or Zacharias et al for deeper insights and more repose.
