This is a great performance but the sound lacks clarity. Bit like listening to it with cotton wool in your ears.

For any listener whose musical tastes were formed in the sixties and seventies this is very satisfying. And such good value.

What a welcome surprise this recording turned out to be for me. As usual, the cover picture was hard to read to read, but I managed to see "Kleiber"". Thoght it was the renowned Carlos Kleiber conducting, but no it is his renowned conductor father Erich Kleiber. Singing is excellent and crystal clear as is the orchestral playing. Hilda Gueden and Lisa della Casa are the excellent female principals, and the males are just as good. An old, but excellent (stereo) recording made to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mozart's birth (death?). This is one of the very best early stereo opera recordings.
