Just a brief note to correct Amazon's listing of this set as 35 discs,it is actually (according to Decca's own website) 44 discs!
Which of course makes it even better value.

Incomplete "Mozart the Complete Operas",

An enjoyable experience to an attractive price. Many old recordings but with many excellent artists. it was great to see the rather unknown opera fragment "L'Oca del Cairo" with competent singers such as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Peter Schreier and Inga Nielsen on the role list.
On the minus side the following should be mentioned: * Despite the title, the set is not complete. "Apollon et Hyacinthus" (KV 38), Mozart's very first opera, is missing - perhaps because the works are grouped according to language - Italian and German, and the text of "Apollon et Hyacinthus" is in latin! Instead, we get the "singspiel" version of "La Finta Giardiniera", named "Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe". * There are no libretti included, which (to me at least) is a severe drawback. This should definitely be mentioned in the description of the product. A printed version would be quite bulky and much too expensive, but a CD with the text would not cost much to produce and significantly enhance the value of the box set.
