Forgive me for waxing lyrical... but this is a glorious CD, due in large part to the joyous performance of Emma Johnson. With this rendition of Mozart's clarinet concerto I really felt: here is someone who's thinking as she plays `Isn't life wonderful? And isn't this music just great fun?' It's enough to envy the members of the English Chamber Orchestra who played together with her. It must, quite simply, have been FUN.
Mind you, the Concerto for Harp, Flute and Orchestra is also beautifully played, light and melodious (I can't fathom that Mozart said he disliked composing for the flute)... but Emma Johnson's performance on the clarinet is an exceptional experience: all is indeed right with the world.
