4.0 out of 5 stars Fine! ... but I've heard better. 17 Mar 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
When I fist got this CD, I knew that this would be another fine addition to my Telarc CDs. Nice performances. Appropriate for taking it easy. Makes me think that whoever buys this would not go wrong.

But then I recently compared this to a Delos CD (by Carol Rosenberger on the Bosendorfer piano with 4 wind instrument players). I find the performances to be even better. The sound from the players are more distinctive. So if you want these Quintets by Mozart and Beethoven, then I would make the Delos CD the first choice. I don't know what would be my second choice, maybe the Telarc (or Naxos, although I MIGHT listen to that someday).

* UPDATE * I listened to the Naxos CD and that, too, I perfer over the Telarc CD. So the Naxos would be my second choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Stately 24 Jun 2007
By Ross Kennett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A good performance, affectionate and precise, sound is very good, Previn plays beautifully, but somehow the joy has been lost. Almost certainly because the performance is rather slow, the Mozart takes 12% longer than Haebler and the Bamberg Wind Quintet on Philips Duo. Disappointing, I expected a great interpretation, but I expect this Mozart to sparkle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mozart Quintet for Piano and Winds. 27 May 2012
By Feroza D. Labonne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This Mozart Piano Quintet is a great piece of music. Mozart wrote to his father that it was the best thing he had written thus far,but this recording featuring pianist/conductor Andre Previn is nothing special. THE TEMPO OF THE OPENING MOVEMENT DRAGS ON, THERE IS NOT MUCH COLOR IN THE PLAYING. THE slow movement loses interest pretty quickly, there is nothing riveting about the way the third movement is played. I PREFER ALFRED BRENDEL AND MURRAY PERAHIA'S RECORDINGS, specially Brendel, who HOLDS THE INTEREST BY VIRTUE OF SUPERIOR PHRASING, INSIGHT AND glowing TONAL PROJECTION The wind players are magnificent as well.
