Just heard this young German lyrical soprano in concert.
Her's is a stunning lyrical soprano voice in the vein of Gundula Janowitz: silvery, crystal clear, warm and expressive without being overly dramatic.
In the previous generation, Barbara Bonney fell just short of becoming the leading exponent globally, probably for want of a more plangent tone.
It is probably too early to predict whether Erdmann can surpass Bonney and become a real successor of Gundula Janowitz, but the prognostics are generally good.
Her voice, though crystal clear, is capable of cutting through orchestration where needed, and being as slim as a model these days, would probably gain even more 'weight' to the timbre when the bodily weight 'progresses' with age.
This debut solo album is a compilation of the works of W. A. Mozart and some of his contemproary composers. Erdmann sings generally in German and Italian.
If there is but one word of caution, it is that it would do Ms. Erdmann tons of good if she would pay even more attention to articulation.
