5.0 out of 5 stars Hockenberry tells wheelchair life as it reallyexists., 2 Jul 1999
By A Customer
After 25 years of working with disabled students, I myself suddenly fought to stay alive and then spent nine months in rehabilitation. As a person who graduated from the same "rehab boot camp" as John Hockenberry, I identify with much of his book. After ffive years, I can walk, but am reading John's book very slowly. Life is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars A humorous and entertianing reality, 12 Jun 1999
By A Customer
John Hockenberry eloquently shows the reader his life. He tells not only of his exciting career and (sometimes very personal) personal life, but of the trials and tribulations of having a disability. I applaud him for his candidness!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully "moving", humorous, and insightful, 2 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I know I'll never view someone in a wheelchair quite the same again. John Hockenberry cuts himself no slack, and he expects the same of those around him. Besides being a wonderful chronicle of our times, it is also a story of someone who never feels he is limited by his handicap, but who often is limited by well-meaning friends, family and associates. If it is true that humor can help achieve "wellness", he is one of the truly whole! Hockenberry truly has raised his sense of irony to an art form.

4.0 out of 5 stars intelligent, wry, and exceedingly well-written
This is a marvelous book.

Hockenberry's got a great story to tell, and he tells it very well. He is matter-of-fact and even blunt in his approach, discoursing upon the realities... Read more
