I am a great fan of this ever changing land of magic, heralds and companions having managed to read from the Gryphon tales onwards although not always in the correct chronological order. It is nice to have the shorter stories every so often an in many ways a treat to see other writers take on the situation. I enjoyed all the stories in the book which all carry the spirit of the original authoress vision. If you are a fan it is well worth adding to your collection, if not it is still enjoyable as a taster.

This anthology is well written and very entertaining. The anthology is great for Valedemar fans especially if you don't have time to read or re-read Lackey's masterpieces. These bitesize stories allow for a quick read in the universe we've come to love.

The only addition I would like is for there to be a small synopsis of each story at the beginning of the book, thereby allowing the reader to pick and choose the stories they want to read and in which order. But again that is a small personal preference.

Would definitely recommend to any Valdemar fans, but fir new readers I still think that the original novels are the palce to start either Black Gryphon or Arrows of the Queen.
