From Amazon.co.uk

It’s a smaller number of episodes than previously that make up series three of Moving On. The show, put together by Cracker and The Street creator Jimmy McGovern, has always attracted a strong cast, and some equally meaty stories. Those standards are kept here. Series three, then, is made up of five separate films, as a collection of characters face major decisions in their lives.

Each of the stories in Moving On are standalone and among the themes that series three covers are; addiction to gambling; an army wife trying to cope while her husband is on service; and depression. These aren’t easy subjects and, with each film running to around 45 minutes, there’s not always as much time as you might like to deal with them.

But Moving On, nonetheless, continues to reach the very high standards that the earlier series have set for it. The differing stories call for differing casts, and it’s testament to the pedigree of the programme that such talented names are attracted once more to the material. Amongst the cast are the likes of Dean Lennox Kelly, Reece Dinsdale and Christine Bottomley, who each make the most of writing that allows them to genuinely stretch themselves as actors.

Moving On has always been an ambitious undertaking, and it’s hard to keep the standards high across five different productions. But this is quality drama, with an emotional intelligence that’s much to its credit. Recommended. --Jon Foster

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but expected better 2 Jan 2012

I really looked forward to receiving this DVD as so many well-known actors are featured in the different eposides, but was somewhat disappointed when I'd watched them all. Worth a look but could have been better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great human drama 8 April 2012

This is a great series from Jimmy McGovern, with very believable moving storylines. Each episode is well crafted so that the outcome is unpredictable and enjoyable. We liked the fact that it is possible to see and sympathize with all the human elements of the stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Moving On returns for a third run 23 Nov 2011

Having enjoyed series one and two of Moving On I was looking forward to a third series but I was a bit disappointed only five episodes were commissioned after we were treated to ten shows in series two. Still the quality of Liverpool's writing talent is still on fine form in these five stand alone plays that are again carried well by the excellent guest actors. The stories in this series focus on a young woman coping with life while her soldier husband is abroad in the conflict ('Tour of Duty'), a 40-year-old woman desperate for a baby who discovers her partner is infertile ('Donor'), a student coping with depression ('Poetry Of Silence') and a friendly milkman who finds himself subject to a compensation claim ('The Milkman'). My favourite episode is 'Punter' in which an excellent Reece Dinsdale plays a plumber with a serious gambling addiction that is threatening to destroy his life. I watched this DVD over the course of a day and enjoyed my money's worth. Hopefully we may see a fourth series on the cards next year!
