From the Author

A tale of two sisters
MOVING ON is my second novel. Like my first book, HARD COPY, it is set in the world of newspapers, but this time the main characters are two sisters, Kate and Laura Hollingberry. Their father, HH, is a well-known newspaper tycoon, but they know next to nothing about their mother, Clare, who walked out in mysterious circumstances when they were little.

The two girls have a close relationship but are poles apart in character. Laura is happy to get an undemanding job until she finds Mr Right, while Kate wants much more out of life. Determined not to rely on her father's money or influence, Kate takes a job on the Bowland Bugle, a struggling weekly newspaper in the wilds of Lancashire. It's her first job, her first bif for independence, and anything can happen...

Kate is bright, fun and doesn't take life too seriously. She arrives in the north as a naive, inexperienced reporter, but is forced to grow up fast when faced with a couple whose teenage daughter has gone missing, a boss who seems hell-bent on tripping her up at every opportunity and a love affair that doesn't go according to plan. Meanwhile, back in London, Laura is facing her own heartbreak and the future of the family business is looking uncertain...

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect beach novel 11 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Compelling narrative drive, incisive dialogue, a convincing evocation of the world of newspaper journalism -- this is a story of relationships and ambition that everyone should take on holiday with them. Warning: you'll have read it from cover to cover by the end of the first day, so bring her first novel too. Much more moving and haunting than you think it will be from the cover, and even more readable. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 24 Jan 2001
Format:Paperback
I thought Emma Lee Potter's Moving On was brilliant. I read it in a day, unable to put it down - even to eat!!! The story is about two sisters, Laura and Kate. Their father, HH has built up a newspaper empire. The mystery of their mother, Clare, plagues them while they grow up and start their own lives. When HH dies suddenly, things start to go wrong. Can Kate and Laura save Hollingberry Holdings? Read it and find out for yourselves!

5.0 out of 5 stars I defy anyone to put this book down! 5 Sep 2000
Format:Paperback
Set in the Ribble Valley and London, Moving On has been on my list of books to read since it came out in July. It's all about a family-run national newspaper business based in London and the lives of two of the daughters. The main character opts out of the business and gets hired by the Bowland Bugle, set in the beautiful Ribble Valley, Lancashire! It makes great reading for anyone who knows Lancashire well, and if you've also spent time in London like I have, its all the more engrossing. It's very easy reading, but a word of advice: read it on holiday, otherwise you might fine yourself missing out on the household chores. I couldn't put it down and polished it off in a weekend - much to the annoyance of my wife who had just bought it from the bookshop! The action moves between the Ribble Valley and London and is brought together well at the end - the Bowland Bugle playing a key part in the finale. If you're a fan of This Life, Sex in the City and Ali McBeal then you'll like Moving On.
