DVD Description

A triple bill of 70s classics.

Deliverance

Deliverance remains one of the screen’s most powerful man-versus-nature adventures and was a motion picture shocker of the 1970s. It's the story of four Atlanta "weekend warriors" who set off in canoes down a dangerous Georgia river and discover a wilderness of terror.

Dog Day Afternoon

Pacino plays Sonny, a smart if self-destructive Brooklyn tough whose plan to rob the local bank to fund his male lover's (Chris Sarandon) sex change goes absurdly wrong. Accompanied only by his doltish accomplice, Sal (John Cazale), Sonny resorts to kidnapping a handful of bank employees when he realises that all the money had been removed before his arrival. As the lengthy August day drags on, Sonny and the hordes of local police, led by Sergeant Moretti (Charles Durning), make little progress, and eventually Sonny's wife and lover are brought to the scene. The crowd's sympathy is immediately captured by the charismatic Sonny, whose antagonism with the police is played out before an audience of millions.

Get Carter

A small-time street tough from London finds himself enmeshed in a web of deceit, blackmail, and murder when he investigates the circumstances surrounding the death of his brother in Newcastle. Get Carter is a hard-as-nails crime movie, featuring a brutal performance by Michael Caine that stands as one of his best.

OK I got this collection for Deliverance: not seen since it was in the cinema!

The DVD was in great condition and the film as pointed as the first time I saw it. One or two parts seemed in greater depth than my teenage memory would allow.

Dog day afternoon was a real jolt back to the 70s cinematic style. Such simple and straightforward plot moves. They don't make 'em like that anymore. (Who would believe the lack of angst?)

There is nothing more I can add to any of Michael Caine's films - they are automatically cool and or clever. (Yes even Harry Brown)

Three great movies that really do represent some of the greatest aspects of 70's cinema although what 'Deliverance' and 'Get Carter' are doing in the same set is slightly confusing.
The packaging is perfunctory at best but at this price I'm really only nitpicking.
