A wonderful discovery, with this book and CD combo, Rommi Smith sets herself out as the leading English voice in the cross over between spoken word and music. This is an English Jill Scott in the making - her focus on New York and the inspiration she found there gives the collection a definite transatlantic feel.The poems are a rare combination of wit and humour conbined with social comment and backed with slick grooves and raw beats. I saw Rommi perform as part of this years' Radio 4 Poetry Festival at the Lowry in Manchester and it blew my mind - such energy and passion for language and landscape. A definite recommendation.
