"Move of Ten" has a WAP, rather than a WARP, catalogue number (usually the Warp label's way of signifying a single, as opposed to an album). But in fact it IS a full length release, consisting of 10 brand new tracks - a companion piece to their "main" LP released earlier this year, Oversteps. In contrast to that record, "Move of Ten" shows (relatively speaking) Autechre's more avant-garde side and as such it was probably a wise idea to present it this way, rather than as the main event, so to speak.

It's densely packed with sonic innovation, though not to the extent that it's unlistenable. It is a bit more structured than the group's infamous mid-period work. Only on "Etchogon-S" will your friends have difficulty in discerning whether they're listening to music, or if your boiler's on the blink. Elsewhere, it's not exactly alienating, but still more likely to be of interest to the harder-core of electronica fans. There are certainly some interesting noises and rhythms going on. Check the weird contrast between military pipe band drumming and off-kilter drum 'n' bass percussion on "Cep_puiqMX" for example.

Not as heavy-going as some of Autechre's releases and fares particularly well as a headphone listen.

Preferred Amber 15 Aug 2011
By Sirius
Format:MP3 Download
There are only 4 out of 10 tracks on this that I regularly listen to:
pce freeze 2.8i (beautiful and very Beaumont Hannant-like), nth Dafuseder.b (touches of FSOL), iris was a pupil (Amber-esque) & M62 (one of the more 'cheery' pieces!)

I much preferred the more ambient and less-jarring offerings on Amber but there are some very nice pieces here and I do come back to the album as a whole at times.

Move often! 15 Feb 2011
By Octo7
Format:Audio CD
Move Of Ten is the second full-length release from Autechre in 2010, considered an EP but worth the price of an album. It happens to be their tenth EP, it has ten tracks and was released in 2010; perhaps this is why it has 'Ten' in the title? The title could also be a play on 'move often'. The sleeve is rather ugly, especially considering it was designed by Designer's Republic, albeit the design is a small complaint given the generous price and the quality of the music. Some of it sounds almost straight-forward which is rare for Autechre nowadays. My favorite track on the album is probably 'pcefreeze 2.8i'; it has elements of hip-hop, industial and dare-I-say dubstep; all spliced together to create a sinister, funky and beautifully produced track; the album is great from start-to-finish though, and it could be a good starting point for those interested in getting into Autechre for the first time. The track: 'y7'; almost sounds like an homage to AFX's Analord series, something I like, a lot!

In conclusion; I definitely recommend you check this album out. It's worth more than the low price-tag.
