Biography

You couldn’t invent the story of Nazareth if you tried. At their peak, the Dunfermline rock group were huge, selling vast quantities of albums and pulling in enormous crowds to their shows. By rights, when the group’s profile receded a little and they morphed into the highly respected club-level regulars that they are today, their reputation should have become tarnished – but ... How often has it happened that your favourite band of the 70's fails to live up to expectations through the 80's and then releases a load of old tosh in the 90's? You only have to see some of these groups live to realise that most of their set is exclusivly taken from their 70's offerings. Not only did Nazareth release some superior albums in the 80's, this album from 1994 proves to be one of their strongest albums ever.
Billy Rankin was on board in this album and he does most of the writing. The result is a Nazareth album with a fresh modern sound, showing that the group was not afraid to move with the times. Guitars are more evident on this record and songs such as You Had It Comin' and the superb Steamroller are the heaviest Nazareth records released. Along with catchy songs like Let Me Be Your Dog and Can't Shake Those Shakes, you will find such emotional ballads like Move Me and Burning Down (which also appeared on a Meat Loaf album). Included on this record you will also find a rock opera version of Love Hurts that will guarentee to have you singing at the top of your voice.
Dan McCafferty sounds better that ever on this disc and with Rankin's help the music sounds fresh and revitalised. This was the last album to feature Rankin, some confusion still remains as to whether he quit or was sacked, and it was also the last album to feature founder and drummer Darrell Sweet who sadly died in 2003. Both men have left a very good album carrying their names though and it proves that Nazareth are far from a spent force even after more than 30 years of recording. True musicians.

The one thing that appeals to me about Nazareth is the sheer variety of styles from one album to the next,so my blood boils when i hear the term classic Nazareth....
but that aside,of the albums released in the second half of their career, this is my favourite in a scale of 1-5 this is a definate 6.. followed closely by No Jive.
dans vocals on rip it up realy get the rocker in me going wild, with other faves inc can't shake those shakes and demon alcohol forever tempt me to give it even more volume winding up the album with some rejigged classic tracks inc. love hurts (with an orchestra)an exellant arrangement that compliments the origianal version proving that variety thing i was on about b4 also the fantastic unplugged version of razamanaz which makes me wish i could hear a whole concert unplugged , such is the skill of this forever underestimated band

Dan McCafferty once again in classic form. Having just purchased and played it through twice, it is indeed another top draw album. This reissue features some excellent bonus tracks of some of their older stuff unplugged. If you like the unique gruffness of Mr McCafferty's voice then make sure this disc is added to your collection without delay.
