This is the second collection of Mouse Guard and you really do need to read the first book
Mouse Guard: Autumn 1152 before this one.
The most impressive thing about this series is the artwork. Both the individual issues and the hardback collections are released in this short or wide format - much akin to childrens books rather than the normal comic book format. This is used to allow some beautifully realised full page scenes and stunning wide screen shots. Yes, the artwork is just prefect for the tone, in the current mainstream comic book industry, things are much shaper and colouring done via computer assistance. This looks much more natural which I suppose suits the nature of the story as its main characters are mice.
It is easy to compare this to Brian Jacques' Redwall series, after all it is about warrior mice, but the world is quite different.
Story wise this continues on from Fall 1152, it continues to develop the characters and the long standing story arc, although each series does seem to deal with a complete story.
This is a tale of adventure, bravery, treacher, comradely and mouse politics! While not as strong as the first book, if you liked that, you'll continue to like this.
