. . . and then get REAL LOUD! That should be a novel musical style, betcha no one's done that before. And then we'll do it over again in the same extended song. And then record another one just like it. Oh God, this is so wrong. Do I need to mention the ponderous title?
Ef is a seven year old Swedish band, three guys (plus guests) who supposedly play "post rock", whatever that means in context (sounds like a mix of ambient and shoegaze to me). You would think that playing together that long would have cured them of playing these deathly dull dirges that take forever to get going and then just end up in a big wall of sound, but no. I mean, they're not bad, individually the playing and singing is okay, but after a song like "kypck" does this cycle about three times, you just can't take anymore of the guitar plucking out one note at a time, when you know it's going to start monotonously pounding again eventually. What is the point? Especially when "Longing" does exactly and precisely the same thing. Maybe it sounds good stoned, I don't know. Check them out in Poznan in May, that sounds like a lively venue. Sorry.
