Book Description

An outstanding sportswriter shares the secrets of success of one of world football's most constantly victorious managers: Jose Mourinho.

Product Description

When Jose Mourinho realised as a teenager that he was never going to be a great player, he decided he was going to become the best coach in the world. From translator and assistant to Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona, to Champions League-winning manager at Porto and on to turning Chelsea into one of Europe's most successful clubs, followed by Champions League victory at Inter Milan, and now manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho's ascent has been rapid.

Backed by Abramovich's billions, Mourinho weeded out those not fully committed to his methods, made several astute signings and improved the performances of many Chelsea stars. The result: in his first season in 2005, Chelsea won both the Premier League title and the Carling Cup, followed by another title the following season. Mourinho then left for Inter Milan where he delivered a treble in his second season in charge, and is now tasked with bringing Real Madrid's 'Galacticos' the silverware they crave. FURTHER ANATOMY OF A WINNER is an intelligent, analytical and now fully updated account of the life and psychology of one of the greatest football managers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Genius! 7 April 2012
By Fabrizio Poli VINE VOICE
Unlike some of the top Football Coaches today like Alex Ferguson, Bobby Robson, Fabio Capello, Giovanni Trapattoni, & Carlo Ancelotti Mourinho does not have a past as a professional football player. Having studied languages and psychology he arrived in the football world as an interpreter for Sir Bobby Robson. Mourinho is a great observer, strategist & tactician. Once a player turns professional he already knows the basics of playing football, the rest is down to fitness, psychology & team work. Mourinho is a master at this and this book shows you how.
Good to see that behind this great man is a solid family, where his wife plays a key role.

excellent i can now understand what it is all about, having been in my earlier life a PE teacher who many time had to inspire young people to believe in themselves, i feel that what i did was not so far away from Mr Mourinho. i was fascinated by his approach to detail and the psychology he used, wish i was 40 years younger again

5.0 out of 5 stars The Special One 24 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story of Jose Mourinho's rise to fame is real Roy of the Rovers stuff. Never realising he was going to make it as a player, he got himself on the coaching ladder, acted as translator and assistant to Sir Bobby Robson at Barcelona, then went alone, and proved he had the midas touch. Patrick Barclay's book is a superb biography of the 'Special One.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read 29 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Partrick Barclay is one of the few Scottish journalists I enjoy reading. Most hacks attached to Scottish rags are like rabid Celtic fans with laptops who can only spread rumour and innuendo about Rangers. It is therefore refreshing to read this balanced and well written account of The Special One, who is the most charismatic manager since Shankly and Clough. A thoroughly entertaining read about a superb football manager.

‘A great pianist doesn’t run around the piano or do push-ups with the tips of his fingers. To be great, he plays the piano. He plays all his life and being a great footballer is not about running, push-ups or physical work generally. The best way to be a great player is to play football.’ "e;

‘guided discovery’, by which Mourinho means that players at a certain level must be led gently to lessons rather than told what to do; "e;

He replied that he had told the players to imagine two different fifteen-minute scenarios. In one they were winning, the other losing. How would they handle it? Because those few minutes might be all they had to win the match. "e;
