OK but not great 12 Mar. 2013

I bought this so that I could carry a camera while cross-country skiing. It seems well made and is quite acceptable from that perspective. The camera is accessed through the top of the pack by unzipping a zipper that runs along the middle of the top of the pack. The location of the zipper obstructs the camera when removing it from the pack, which I found annoying. It would be better in my opinion if the zipper prescribed a "U" shaped channel that would create a flap, allowing the camera to be more easily removed from the pack. There is also a "tagalong" mini-pack permanently attached to the rear of the pack in which you can store incidentals like a phone, glasses, credit cards, etc. This may be useful to some, but for me it added a bit of unwanted weight and, more importantly, volume.

While skiing it was cumbersome (at least for me) to stop, remove the camera (which requires that the pack be loosened or taken off), figure out where to put the pack while shooting, then reverse the process. After a while the waist stap on the pack loosened and it started to hang lower and lower. I've returned it and will try a different product.

Perfect for Compact System Cameras 28 Dec. 2012
By John from Phoenix - Published on
I have an Olympus E-M5 with the 12-50 zoom, which fits perfectly in the center. Add a 40 - 150 zoom and I have a small pack with camera and lenses that covers an effective range of 24 - 300 mm in 35 mm terms. The third compartment takes a flash or smaller accessories such as a table top tripod/GorillaPod, or another lens. I've even put my E-M5 + larger 14-54 zoom with adapter in. It fits...not gracefully...but it fits.

In a nutshell, this bag is perfect for smaller Compact System Cameras, such as the Olympus Pens, Sony Nex, etc. There's even space for a 22 ounce water bottle and a molded front compartment for trail snacks or other accessories. What's nice about this type of design is you can use it as a fanny pack and spin it around to the front to retrieve your camera or other items.

My only criticism is the shoulder strap is pretty useless, so I bought a 12 inch strip of 1" wide strapping at REI and made a handle. You could hang some extra accessories off the exterior, but that really pushes the boundaries of size and versatility.

Design is outstanding and quality is pure Mountainsmith. I say that in the context of having used a Mountainsmith internal frame backpack for five years of camping/hiking as an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scouts. It never failed me.

Good bag, but with some limitations. 17 April 2014

I have two other Mountainsmith camera bags and like those, this is a good bag, well made and very protective. Specially given the fact that its a belt type pack, its easy on the body and not very cumbersome when worn. The fit, finish and quality is great. The yellow insides are very helpful to visually locate the gear quickly.

I was hoping to be able to use this bag with my 5D II along with one additional lens and flash, but unfortunately, its too tight for all those to fit in. Like some other reviewers have noted, the top zip of the bag forms a tight lip which makes putting the camera in or taking it out quickly a little painful. 580EX flash barely fits in the side inside compartment.

I decided to use this bag with my travel camera, a Fujifilm X100s and that works out well - I have a hood on, on my x100s, so that goes in the middle and a full size flash (Neewer TT850) in one of the inside side pockets and the wireless trigger in the other inside side pocket. I can safely recommend this camera bag for the smaller mirrorless camera systems (would be near perfect for the fujifilm XT-1 system) - however, what ever camera one uses, the zipper on top is a little cumbersome to insert and remove the camera from the bag - its a design flaw of sorts.

On a sidenote, I ordered from Ebags, and even though the bag arrived within the week, it seemed to be a prior customer return. There was a sony lens hood sitting inside one of the pockets. Since I am traveling overseas in a couple of days, unfortunately I dp not have the option to return it for a refund or exchange - but i expected Ebags to have better quality control over their shipments and not try to be deceptive by selling returned bags as new, on amazon. I wont be buying from them again.

Sturdy and not too bulky 24 Sept. 2013

I love this bag! It fits our Cannon perfectly and is not too bulky or big. The camera is protected and we even have room to store the cords, battery, etc. There is pocket in the front with a red and green tab to store SD cards, and a place to put money and other things that we needed to carry around on our trip.

Very practical! 5 Sept. 2013

I received a Canon SLR Rebel 1 for my birthday with two lenses. I wanted something not too large that would hold all of my equipment and be easy to carry. I researched many bags/waist packs and decided on this one. It holds my camera and both lenses as well as accessories and provides great protection of the camera and lenses. It is very durable. The camera and lenses are easy to access and I find this waist pack to be very practical. It is very comfortable to wear and the shoulder strap provides excellent support in holding the waist pack in place. I would have given it 5 stars except for the stretchy middle pocket that doesn't allow me to tighten the waist pack as much as I would like. This is just a personal preference.
