5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous little book 20 July 2011
Format:Hardcover
As with the other books by the Rev. W. Awdry, the story is set on a fictionalised railway which is based on a real one, in this case the Snowdon Mountain Railway in Wales. I was just feeling sad there were no reviews for this lovely little addition to The Railway Series. It was one of my favourites as a child, so based on the happiness it brought me 25 years ago I recommend it very highly! I hope these books continue to be loved by children for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Awdry 29 April 2013
Format:Hardcover
From 1964 this was the second book to be illustrated by Peter Edwards with scenes drawn from life around Mt Snowdon in Wales. Another story of pride, punishment and redemption, and No 6 riding Devil's Back in a gale, is the exciting climax.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thomas the tank Engine Railway Series 19-Mountain Engines 15 Jun 2003
By "jakatomps32" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
"Mountain Engines" is a book with four stories by the Reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry. The Stories are about 8 engines (1-Godred, 2-Ernest, 3-Wilfred, 4-Culdee, 5-Shane Dooiney, 6-Lord Harry/Patrick, 7-Alaric, 8-Eric) who live on a tourist Mountain Railway which runs from the bottom of Mt. Culdee Fell to the Top of Mt. Culdee Fell. The Stories are mainly about Culdee and Patrick. The First story, "Mountain Engine," is about when Culdee comes back from Crovan's Gate for repairs. She is dropped off by Donald by the Skarloey Railway Engines' shed and she starts to tell the engines about the Mountain Railway. The Second Story, Bad Look-Out, is about when Skarloey and Rheneas help Culdee to tell Sir Handel a scary story to make him behave... The Third Story, Danger Points, is about when Donald brings Culdee back to her own Railway. A New Engine (No. 6) had arrived when she was gone, and he us VERY cocky, which gets him into a small accident... The Fourth and Last story, '"Devil's Back,"' is about when Lord Harry comes out of the shed and shows that he can be a really useful engine, and has learned that it is stupid to take risks just for the sake of showing off!
This is a very interesting book about a different kind of railway, and I think any train fan would enjoy it.
NOTE: No. 5-Shane Dooiney does not appear in the books at all because he is away being mended. This takes one star off the book.
