4.0 out of 5 stars head ache 17 May 2004
the book is best used as a reference book, to dip in to rather than a book to read cover to cover as i did. the lack of detail relating to 'v' brakes was a suprise.
the book wasn't written in the UK and some of the US/UK wording was confusing, a good book although a little old looking too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book 5 Mar 2005
By S. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book at the bike shop when I got my first mountain bike. Since then I have constantly had the shifting/derailleur system fail. Each time I have tried to use this book to solve the problem, I manage to make it just better than horrible, but not good enough, and end up bringing it to a bike shop for a professional tune-up.

There are plenty of pictures but overall it has been worthless. The step-by-step procedures may work in a few situations, but not in the majority of situations you might encounter.
1.0 out of 5 stars Just like the previous review I also bought this with my first mountain bike 17 May 2014

I have never been able to glean useful information from the book. It's a poor guide for anyone trying to do their own maintenance
