For fans of Billy Eckstine, there is plenty in this 2 cd set, filled with great standards of the sixties, that will delight. It also finally fills a large jigsaw piece in his compact disc discography. What makes this set extra special is that these recordings were made for Motown, during its classic heydey. Motown specialised in delivering light pop-soul to the masses during the 60's, but Berry Gordy (the president and founder) had a huge admiration and understanding of the professional clout MOR artists could have for his fleDgling company. Billy Eckstine, a seasoned performer, was signed. His output was 3 albums a a smattering of single tracks. Here, for the very first time, are all the recordings Motown released, PLUS a number of unissued tracks. I would recommend this to Billy fans unreservedly, but the purpose of my review is to sell this to all those diehard Motown fans out there who just aren't sure they want to add this essentially MOR offering to their collection. Let me say this - 'Together 'till the end of time' the previously unreleased 'Ask the lonely' and 'It's all in the game' (easily as classy as the Four Tops version) are slices of pure Motown magic - and are worth the price alone. So please, do yourselves a favour, if you are ordering the 'companion' 2cd sets by Jimmy Ruffin and Barbara Mcnair, do not overlook this collection. There are some stunning, sadly overlooked, and amazingly unreleased recordings here.
