I bought the Kindle version of this and wish I hadn't have bothered, it's useless, no technical info to speak of and frankly it hasn't taught me anything that I hadn't already figured out by myself. At least if I had bought the paper version I could have sold it on or burnt it for warmth one cold night. Steer well clear.

I guess it depends on who you are and what you are looking for. I am a non techie first time user, I use a desktop PC, have never had a smart phone so need a little help with technology I am not familiar with. This book explains the functions of the Xoom clearly and simply without confusing me with techie information I don't need at this stage. It's a pity there was nothing like this included in the pack, but this beats having to keep asking my son! With the aid of this book I am absolutely loving my Xoom!

Not the best of the "Missing Manuals" series. I guess that with the XOOM having been overtaken by the XOOM 2, this will not be updated. This is a shame, because there is some good stuff in here - but it is not well organised. Lots of information is inside the covers, if you can find it.
It is out of date, in that the later models of the XOOM Wi-Fi were on Android 3.2, while this is still stuck on Android 3. As a result, some of the instructions do not work. I can only assume that the author was given a pre-production XOOM, and did not bother to check for updates. Really, there is too much detail that you don't need to get started, but not enough of the detail that you do need. The index is not the best one I have ever used - it should be regarded as a guide to what could be found. I think that I will get a lot of use out of it, but it could have been so much better. When all the XOOMs have been upgraded to Android 3.4 (as is now available in the US) I think its usefulness will fall very sharply.

Boughta a Xoom 2 legitimately but with no box or instructions. Downloading a PDF would have used half a rainforest but this book is simple to follow and step by step let's you achieve the best from your tablet. Cannot praise it high enough. As there are a series of manuals check it out. Excellent

TIMING IS EVERTHING! 17 Mar. 2012
By Jay Pickens - Published on Amazon.com

In all fairness, I selected this book by reading a "sample" of the writers style and reviewing the "Table of Contents". I liked both! I ordered the book - I also ordered the downloadable Kindle version - and a Kindle Reader for my PC!. My thoughts were to load the book to the computer - bring up the book and study it on my computer WHILE positioning my XOOM to my left (on my computer desk). As I read an instruction from the computer, I would turn to my Xoom and actually carry out the instruction - an affective way to learn something very new to my life. The more obvious choice by most of you would have been to install KINDLE version on my XOOM and just go from book to actual trial useage on the tablet - I'm 76 and brand new to any tablet - my way was far better and much quicker FOR ME.

Two days later, my Xoom was delivered! I immediately gave it a full charge. I booted it up and IMMEDIATELY got the message that it was uploading the Ver. 4.??? UPGRADE!! WOW! I had been reading of its' "soon-to-be-released" new, improved OS - AND NOW I HAD IT!! Admittedly, I had to play around a bit to marvel at this miracle (I have no Smartphone or earlier forms of i-touch, i-pad, Kindle or anything else held in the hand and full of wonderful uses and endless information).

I ran to my computer, brought up my KINDLE READER . . . . AND this wonderful book! Hey! the KINDLE version is in COLOR!!! - printed version ISN'T! Okay, a nice bonus?

Already a Long story shortened. . . . I found out rather quickly that this book, though well written, IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WRITTEN for the new operating system. I was hammered from the start in reading "tap" instructions - trying them on the XOOM - only to find that the action described just didn't happen - HOLY CRAP!!!!! Remembering, that I had NO experience with a tablet before that moment. Okay, no more whining - the book is going to work out fine (IN TIME) and probably not much of a problem at all for the experienced tablet or phone user - for me, much stress, but I'm figuring it out and will be comfortable with it all in a few weeks . . . just very disappointing for my first introduction.

Good Book - enjoyable writing style - full of good info from the very start (if you're still using Ver. 3.2.whatever) - but you're probably not, since all the XOOM tablets got the recent update, I would suppose . . . . . and you well know, that Motorola offers very close to NOTHING(in information concerning the operation of the XOOM!)

necessary evil 7 Dec. 2011

This should be included in the purchase of a Xoom. Excellent index so you can just go to an area you want info on without reading entire chapters. Very easy for us "non-geeks" to read and understand. This is a necessity for all Xoom owners.

The Missing Manual for Xoom 21 Jan. 2013

I think it is a great guide and it sure fills in the gaps. I haven't finshed the whole thing, but have learned some interesting facts about my Xoom that no one tells you.
