This phone is no-nonsense. It has all the features which you actually need... bluetooth, camera, SMS/MMS and of course phones were made to make phone calls not waste time and money on apps. It has a decent quality 2MP camera, and comes with games.
The screen is bright and colourful, and lights up when the phone rings. iPhones etc have become boring and standard now, everyone has one these days. This phone is a real looker, it grabs peoples attention and doesn't look like a poser phone.
This is a very stylish model, not ugly like the Nokia and Samsung alternatives within the same price bracket. It has some weight to it and doesn't feel as though it was made out of cheap plastic like other phones. It has a nice feel to it and it is very affordable. I would have paid more for this, well worth it.
This is the real no-nonsense business class/personal phone. Highly recommended 5 out of 5.
The MP3 player has a reasonable sound quality. However if you want to play music with a closed shell, you can only do that from a playlist; directly playing from the directory (with a closed shell) is not possible. If you have 16Gb of music on your memory card, this is a real pain in the neck because creating a playlist requires many steps.
This phone is also lacking a proper tool to manage phone data like telephone numbers, using your PC.

I should like to be able to change the message arrival/phone open/phoneclose alert to a custom mp3 or wav file instead of the cheesy tone 1 to 18 options.

Regarding the other question we are sorry to inform you that it is not possible to set up an Mp3/Wav file as an alert. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

What software do I need to do these things?
I used to be able to do this and much more with my 6 year old Pebl.
I got this back:-
In response to your query, we regret to inform you that the EX series, which includes Gleam, do not support a connection to a PC via a software programme,
In other words you cant backup your contacts/phone numbers etc
If you go to Motorola's site it's as if they are ashamed of it with almost no documentation about it. In most of the FAQ or help pages it just does not exist.
And finally it turns itself off every night even though all the autoshutdown functions are disabled. (This isn't documented either)
This `phone has less features and is more difficult to use and has less documentation than my six year old Motorola Pebl.
I shall be returning it to the retailer.
