Evocative, not only of the film, but of the themes and landscapes underlying the film. You can imagine your own South American adventure. Allows you to relax with it, or engage with it as fully as you want. Enough layers of interest in the music, to keep you interested for some time to come, while remaining accessible and not too complex.

Best soundtrack I've heard for some time. You really don't need to have seen the film to enjoy this on many levels. Well done Santaolalla!

This album takes you back to the stunning film and you relive moments and scenes with so much pleasure you will smile time and time again.
Whether it's the haunting melodies or the up tempo numbers you remember this is a 'must buy' if you like the film.

Like the film itself, I found this soundtrack album to be an unexpected gem Ð haunting and enchanting in equal measure. Every time I hear it, it reminds me of how evocative The Motorcycle Diaries was, but you could enjoy it even if you hadnÕt see film.
I find I have to listen to it on headphones to get the maximum enjoyment from it Ð thereÕs a lot of depth and subtlety to the sound that you can miss otherwise.
Although SantaolallaÕs guitar playing is beautiful, there is a bit too much of it and if I had to have a criticism of the album, it would only be that I would have liked a bit more 40s/50s mambo on there. However, IÕm just about to rectify that by investing in some Damasco Perez Prado albums and educate myself in the Way of Mambo... watch this space...

I eventually watched "The Motorcycle Diaries" after it had spent 6 months on my PVR hard disk. You know how it is; there is always something 'more important' or of greater interest to watch instead. I have to admit that at one stage, I even contemplated deleting the film to make space.

Imagine my surprise, when within minutes of the start of the film, the most amazing and unexpected soundtrack starts to unfold. Never distracting from the dialogue or the stunning imagary of the South American sub-continent depicted in Walter Salles's fine film, the music breathes soul into every passage of Che's journey.

A variety of musical styles are depicted in the soundtrack, from contemporary neo-garage rock to salsa and latino folk. All of it works and the music stayed with me as the credits rolled at the end of the film. I had to own this album.

The dilemna; could the music be anywhere as rewarding an experience when auditioned without the images? Of course it can and it did. There is life and passion within this piece that makes it live beyond its original intended purpose.

A work of obvious love, it is small wonder that a year after making this, Gustavo Santaolalla was scoring and performing the incidental music for "Brokeback Mountain". When Ang Lee comes calling, you know that you have some special talent to offer.

Even if you have not seen the film, I thoroughly recommend "The Motorcycle Diaries" to you.
