well this od saxon cd finally came out, i had been waiting for this for years, it is a decent effort since it took these guys 15 years to record new material i was of coarse expecting this to be better, the best song on this cd is the title track MOTORBIKER it does have that motorcycle man feel to it but sadley the rest of this cd sounds very modern for my fourty something year old ears, graham still has it regarding those solos of his and his trademark sound, i mean you know graham is playing guitar here but i felt the son of a bitch cd back in 1996 was far better then this effort, chemical romance is very late 90s modern sounding and no way out is that song ONE SOUR KRAUT that appeared on that compilation angelair put out back in 2008 all they did was re work the song a bit and throw a different intro to it for this release but sadley the song goes nowhere, whipping boy is ok that is a decent rocker, just another sucicide is a decent song to but just does not stick in your head as for nevada beach the lyrics seem a bit silly and it also has another silly sensless intro to it hell in helsinki is ok, worlds gone mad is ok and sadley nusery crimes is the worst song on this release, any song from a bunch of guys in there late 50s that starts out with lyrics like hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock is so saxon offbase i will say no more about it, od saxon seem to be trying to appeal to a younger audiance with the modern production that takes place on this cd, if you are a younger hm fan perhaps you will really enjoy this release but please to be fair to oliver/dawson and mr conway maybe im to oldschool for this sound, i got into hard rock back in 1976 and i have been a saxon fan since 1981 so that could be the problem right there, i love all the oldschool metal and hard rock albums from the 70s through the late 80s, the 90s offered some ok stuff but once everything went digital in the 90s i felt music was never the same again, graham is no doubt an awsome guitarist and i loved watching him play alongside paul quinn all those years ago, also dobby was a real fixture with saxon until he got sacked in 1986 so i will always respect them no matter what but i will not b.s anyone when writing a review, sadley ( and i mean im sad to write this) i think in 2012 the duo axework of quinn and scarret who are the axe duo of the real saxon are doing a much better job with keeping things oldschool, saxon did a couple of dissapointing records like metalhead and killing ground regarding trying to sound modern but then in 2004 then came roaring back with the real classic oldschool saxon sound on lionheart and then again with inner sanctum, into the lybrynth in 09 was a bit to modern for my ears but last year 2011 saxon did it again CALL TO ARMS IS AS GOOD AS ANY 80S SAXON RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im just sruggeling with WHY graham is not keeping his classic oldschool sound up to par???? he was still doing it very well in the early to mid 90s with such saxon classics as solid ball of rock, forever free and dogs of war all 3 are 5 star records, the son of a bitch album oliver and dawson did back in 96 was awsome biff even said he liked it so i will never understand why graham and dobby did not continue in that format??? wardi is a good singer but when he sings saxon classics its no where near as powerful as when biff sings them, going back over the past 15 years i see it this way both should have kept son of a bitch going and avoided that long silly lawsuit over the saxon name, by now they would have had a good 5 studio albums under there belt and maybe 2 live albums and also a bit of a following of there own, the sadest thing i heard said regarding od saxon was by biff himself when saxon toured the us last autmn, when asked about a reunion with graham or steve he replied that it would have been possible to invite them to do gigs at the big festivals in europe like wacken and maybe do a dvd or something BUT since they kept us in court all these years and all this hostility went on i dont see that possible now, anyway i was really hoping for a strong arm of the law here or even a power and the glory or a forever free but what this record offers is what most nu metal bands are offering these days, i wish it was kept oldschool but od saxon and graham and steve will always be special to me, they have been blasting through my speakers for 31 years now, im afraid this record motorbiker does not hold the same weight as the classic stuff they did in the 80s and what graham was still doing in the early 90s held. anyway im glad they are doing something though hope this does ok in europe, i dont see hope for it in the us...
