Product Description

First published in 1996, Eric Gorr's guide to maximizing stock motocross and off-road motorcycles and building factory race replicas has become the definitive work on the subject. This all-new edition is extensively revised to cover all bikes built from 1985 through 1999, including: the Powerjet carbureted Honda CR250 and CR125; the new Yamaha four-stroke YZ400F and WR400F; and all other new-for-1999 bikes. KTM competition bikes and the Kawasaki KLX300 four-stroke will also be covered. Step-by-step instructions and a generous selection of exclusive photography show how to maintain, modify, and set-up every component, and how to correct common flaws. Advice is also provided for buying used bikes, setting up a shop at home, and preparing for race day. Eric Gorr is a professional motocross tuner and the author of the original Motocross & Off-Road Motorcycle Performance Handbook.

This book is not really aimed at improving riding or technique, but more at how the bike works and what can be done to make it work better. It is a fairly competent book, but I feel it could use a little less slang and jargon, and a little more serious technical information. The tuning section for my bike (Honda XR) is next to useless, as it only contains information suitable for those with the slightest previous technical experience. Nothing advanced at all.

Finally it has several minor technical mistakes that I really wouldn't expect in a published book. Most notably getting understeer and oversteer the wrong way around, but there are others.

Yet another book written up to the PRO Supercross standard! Full-filled with tons of tips and tricks of not only how to improve your riding, but also your bike (for those who blame everything on your bike!). It should really be called, Motocross/Offroad - "THE BOOK" its one of a kind.

Buy This Book! 2 Jun 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you're a motorcycle enthusiast and you like to work on your own bike, this is the book to have! It tells you just about anything you may ever have wanted to know about working on your bike and more importantly, how to set it up properly. It goes through everything step by step, but not in a dummies fashion. The writing is straightforward, entertaining and best of all fact filled. I would call this the bible of dirtbikes. Now that I have it, I don't leave home without it.

By the way, I don't know the author, I just bought the book because a professional mechanic I met on the trail told me about it.

Great for novices interested in the sport. 23 Feb 2001

My wife and I are in the market for a couple of used off-road machines and I'm the type of person who likes to do some homework before jumping into uncharted waters. After picking up a copy of Mr. Gorr's book and just beginning to read through it, I can already tell its just what the doctor ordered. It gives great tips on what to look for when shopping for a used bike and the known trouble areas on most of the popular models. The tips in the rebuild and performance sections tend to helpful and "no nonsense". Its been difficult to put the book down thus far.

Good solid stuff. 14 Aug 2003
By Carl Bielke - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Eric Gorr's book is a great help to all dirtbike owners. In addition to your bikes workshop manual it should cover absolutely EVERYTHING you will ever need to do to your bike.

The writing is good, it's organized and to the point. There are specific sections for all the major models.
This is one of the better tecnical books I own, and I highly recommend it.
