Have to say that this was an opportunity missed. What could have been a glorious history of 50 years of GP racing ended up a decent but not outstanding description of the sport. Each season gets a couple of hundred words, scarcely covering the drama of the racing, especially as they have to cover up to 5 classes.
The photographs could have made up for the deficiencies of the text, but these come up short as well. There are few new photographs (for those following racing closely), the period since 1976, seeming to rely almost exclusively on material already published in the Motocourse annuals.
There are bright spots in the form of highlight pages focusing on famous riders, and technical developments, with a few dedicated to the spirit and atmosphere of GP racing in the past. Best of all is editor Dennis Noyes' account of the evolution of the sport from the mud-filled paddocks of the 60's and 70's to the freshly tarmaced acres of the '90s. What was gained and what was lost. Buy the book, but don't expect perfection

Printed on quality paper, this book contains some gorgeous photos. In fact it goes back further than the last 50 years. Neat little technical history commentaries complement the season by season reviews. An absolute must have for a Gp bike fan

What a fantastic book, its what I thought it would be and more. If you are a student of history then this is a must-buy, some great little anecdotes and fantastic insights into motorcycle racing and it's riders.
