5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 1st Class Prog Rock 16 Nov 2006
By Phil
Format:Audio CD
I came across this band by chance, found their web site read about them listened to some samples from their site...and I was hooked.

If you love Prog Rock in any capacity you will love this band. They are a great mix of fantastic musicianship and no 'one' instrument tends to dominate the theme of songs. Many prog bands tend to be either guitar or keyboard bias, these guys bring out the best in song writing with all instruments playing their part. It can be quite raunchy, a bit jazzy, but basically good genuine alround Progressive Rock.

It would be easy to draw comparisons with Flower Kings, Spocks Beard, Arena, Saga etc etc but listen to this album for what it is and not how it 'may sound a bit' like some other band. It is Magic Pie and they have served up one hell of a major slice of music that quite frankly puts much of my music collection into the shade.

Your CD collection is crying out for this bands CD to join them and to show that small bands on small labels can deliver a great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic, Magic Pie 31 May 2007
Format:Audio CD
I too only just discovered this band and this album recently and (wow!) what a discovery. This is one hell of a prog rock epic. Believe everything the previous reviewer wrote, I've got an expansive collection of neo prog and this has become one of my very favourites.

Don't miss out on the new release, also - Circle of Life - the best album of this year so far by some distance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Download a piece of pie today 13 Mar 2010
By Ianham VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Scandanavians with unfeasably large organs are seemingly in abundance these days. This band have produced an epic which is immediately classic. Underpinned by a Hammond (B3 or patch?)the magnificent "Change" hits all the spots - my wife hates it so it must be great Prog. Those of you not inclined to do air keyboards do get some tasty guitar to get down to.

Every other reviewer has got this one right. Buy on sight - although the download seems a good bet just on price.

I commend this cd to the House.

4.0 out of 5 stars An apple a day gives you ...motions of desire.. 1 July 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've taken a liking to Scandinavian Progressive Rock recently. After discovering Beardfish, Simon Says and A.C.T. I found this group. With the album Motions of Desire, Magic Pie deliver a highly polished, fully accomplished, well produced album of Genesis/Yes style prog rock. Not a million miles away from sounding like Beardfish and/or Simon Says, but Magic Pie have a guitarist that plays similarly to Ynve Malmstein. The Malmstein guitar put me off at first, but I must admit it eventually stopped dominating my listening experience.

The tracks are good and after 4 weeks are still getting better. I look forward to coming back to this album in a years time. They always sound better the second time around.

4.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece ? 23 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album is an almost masterpiece it opens up with the 20 minute epic change which winds its way through countless mazes of musical wizardry and fun it then sidewinds in to the shorter but equally wonderous title song and third song before turning in to the four part suit Illusion and Reality which is an expertly crafted piece of music with tornados of change and harmonious guitar and keyboard moments and quality vocals. The production of the album is filled with a sense of space and the guitars are a bit thing as are the drums perhaps a little bit quite However the music is still sublime.
The music on change the opening 20 minute song is dramatic in its changes ranging from dream theater esque metal guitar work to more Jazzy and free sections with strong powerful bass lines and a nice bass tone too. Some of the vocals are also reminiscent of Pink Floyd too though the overall sound of The album and magic pie in general is fairly unique. the album is very long clocking in at almost and entire cd length of 80 minutes but it oes by very fast because the music is so enjoyable and well written and engaging too
