Product Description

Product Description

Two sold out European tours included headline spots at Glastonbury and Somerset House. In America, Bright Eyes played a five night run at Webster Hall in New York. Earlier in the year, I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning went silver in the UK to much critical acclaim, Motion Sickness is the live counterpart to it.

CD Description

Modern day bard Conor Oberst follows up his acclaimed twin releases 'I'm Wide Awake It's Morning' and 'Digital Ash In ADigital Urn' with this live release documenting his 2005 world tour, of which every date was recorded. Largely comprising material from the two aforementioned albums, it also features some older tracks for the fans and two cover versions including Elliott Smith's 'The Biggest Lie', and will be available solely in a limited edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright Eyes, Bright Album, 15 Nov 2005
By Mr. F. Gibbons "Morrissey" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having released two albums at the same time earlier this year, Bright Eyes returns with some live recordings of his sold out tour which consisted of 150 shows! The tour, as it states in the sleeve notes, was to promote the more folk inspired of the two albums released earlier this year, "Im wide awake its Morning" so therefore its no surprise that most of the best songs from that album appear on "Motion Sickness" in their live form. All the songs are performed very ably and Conor Oberst's voice still retains the endearing hesitance in the live arena that it does on record. Renditions of songs such as "Train Under Water", "We are nowhere and its now" and older songs such as "method acting" are all brilliant but one cant help but be dissappointed by the omission of such great songs such as "The First Day of my Life". Another slight detraction is that because Emmylou Harris is so brilliant in complementing Oberst's voice on "im wide awake, its morning", one wishes that she was there at the live shows to add her magic. However, overall this is a very good live album and well worth getting whether you are already equainted with the genuis that is Conor Oberst, or even if you are just curious to see what all the fuss is about. Either way, you wont be dissappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Road to joy, 21 Feb 2006
By A Customer
The album captures a marathon tour undertaken to show the songs from the album 'I'm wide awake its morning'. The songs off this album are more adaptable for a live audience than the other 2005 Conor Oberst release, ‘Digital ash in a digital urn’. Some of the songs such as ‘Landlocked blues’ play are hardly distinguishable from the album, however there is enough variation to justify the live release.

The album sleeve comes with an account of the highs and lows of the 150 show tour from the perspective of the drummer and reveals a few interesting insights. Conor Oberst and another band member were greatly upset when a plane fault was found minutes before takeoff. An ironic incident considering the monologue at the beginning of ‘I’m wide awake’ which involves a plane plummeting to its destruction.

Songs such as ‘The president talks to God’ capture Conor’s anger at political events and the emotion in his voice is evident throughout. If you like bright eyes, and especially the more acoustic sounding music they create this is a must buy. Go see a Bright eyes live performance, however if you find the opportunities rare, buy this album, as it’s the next best thing.
