5.0 out of 5 stars Mothers Ruin Oliver Wakeman Band 26 Dec 2005
Format:Audio CD
At last, Oliver Wakemans long awaited new album! This is a prog
rock album with great vocals and lyrics, superb instrumentals.
"The Agent" refers to the seamier side of the music business.
The title track "Mother's Ruin" refers not to gin, but to the
demise of Mother Earth. Interesting and thought provoking, I find
new elements every time I listen to it. There is a long wait for this album, and it may be difficult to obtain in the record shops
as they unwilling to take the risk of something new and innovative. But order it folks! It is well worth the wait.
Having recorded a lot of excellent work and put in 10 years or
so hard graft, Oliver Wakeman could turn out to be one of those
"overnight" sensations with "Mother's Ruin" Personal favourite
tracks. "The Agent, "Don't Believe in Angels". "In the Movies"
and "If your Leaving" are gentler tracks, lovely vocals, subtle
instrumentals. Moon Kinniard has now left the band, but has been
replaced by by Paul Manzi, also excellent. This well crafted
album needs to be heard, and I hope it will get the audience it
deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album - buy it 13 Nov 2005
By Diana Rebornmom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is great progressive rock music with a hard edge. Oliver once again has created a wonderful album, utilizing great material and being surrounded with the right people to make this sound simply fantastic. There's "hard rock", "ballads", "progressive" all mixed together quite well. If you like your music well done, then this is waiting to be part of your collection. I recommend buying from the company that released the album (progrock records) as the wait will be MUCH less than what amazon is offering....
2.0 out of 5 stars Like his father? No way! 17 Aug 2010
By B. Bernardini - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I guess you cant live up to your father's name or even give his son some lessons. I was greatly anticipating
some nice things from this CD,but was greatly disappointed. No texture, no feelings, even on one song there was a
ballad and it was pitiful! The singer was terrible and was cracking. Man I could have slapped this together myself.
Each part of the songs were "slapped" together. Every time Mr. Wakeman came in it sound like it was "punched"
by by a program. Again no emotion, just this stupid hard guitar power chords! Man, Oliver go back to your Dad
and take more lessons. Just God awful! No musicianship at all!
3.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL KEYBOARDS 13 Feb 2009
By Beryl M. Stoler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
JUST PURCHASED AND LISTENED TO THE ALBUM SEVERAL TIMES. OLIVER IS JUST A FANTASTIC TALENT,WHY WOULD "YES" HAVE ASKED HIM TO FILL IN ON TOUR. OTHER THEN SOME GREAT KEYBOARD WORK, THIS ALBUM HAS NOTHING ELSE TO GET EXCITED ABOUT. THE REST OF THE GROUP CANNOT HOLD UP TO THE KEYBOARD WISIDRY OF OLIVER WAKEMAN. HAD IT BEEN AN ALL KEYBOARD EFFORT IT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT, SUPERIOR ALBUM.
