Another beautifully Written book By KL,
By
This review is from: Mothers & Daughters (Paperback)
I read this in hardback, Kate Long is one of the authors that I rush out to buy straight away. I find her work challenging, witty, fresh and real. This book is full of terrible and wonderful truths about family life.

All human life..,
This review is from: Mothers & Daughters (Paperback)
Like all of Kate Long's previous novels, Mothers & Daughters sees strong emotion and tense drama played out in normal, recogniseable families. She writes with wit, pithy observation and eye for detail, but the style never gets in the way of the substance. It's hard not to think that if her settings were upper middle class and either Metropolitan or exotic(and maybe with a less chick-lit cover from the publishers)there'd be plenty of literary prizes coming Kate Long's way. But that's the literary establishment's loss, not ours - we get to read the books anyway!

Best book yet,
By Jeannie B (Northamptonshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Mother's guide to Cheating (Hardcover)
Contrary to the impression given by the title and book cover design, this is not chick-lit and it's not a guide in how to cheat. Instead it's a story of how a middle-aged woman deals with family problems caused by the cheating of her husband and son-in-law (and the selfish actions of her daughter). It's not a genre I normally read, and yet it kept me turning the pages and wanting to know what happened. The characters are multi-faceted, the writing is subtle and compelling and the ending deeply satisfying.
