Product Description

Stay-at-home mum Fran Clarke is approaching both her thirty-seventh birthday and crisis point.

Once a brilliant voiceover artist, she now hasn't worked for years. The talent hasn't deserted her - only her self-belief.

She could have it all, if she could only see it. But with her confidence shot and a husband who no longer knows how to help her, most days all she sees is the bottom of a wine glass.
Fran knows she has to stop the downward spiral before she self-destructs completely. But she hits rock bottom when she realises she can't even solve the problems of her own two children. And if she thinks she's a hopeless flake, imagine what the other school-run mums think of her.

Being a mum can be hysterically funny. But it can also be heartbreakingly tough.

That's Motherland.

Parental Dystopia 12 April 2007
By SilentSinger TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
I was drawn to this book by the review in the Sunday Times Culture Magazine and it was spot on. A good, readable story in which the heroine, North London mother - Fran, is having a few problems with life and the various people who surround her. The author conveys a light witty touch and I'm sure this book will strike a cord with parents across the UK.

Do not dismiss it! 5 April 2007
Format:Hardcover
It looks like a chick lit? Maybe. Has it got a plot of a hen lit? Probably. But even if you like me are weary of chick lit, read it and you will forget all of this after the first page. It's hilarious and very well written. It's funny and it's clever. The mummy got style. Unique characters that are not just satellites around the main (un)perfect heroine. They have their own reason of being. You will love every single one of them. The goods and the bads. And with characters like those who cares if you can see the turns coming miles away.

so what? 7 April 2008
By Baffled
Format:Hardcover
This book was reasonably well written but it was of the yadda yadda so-what school of fiction. yes, being a mother is hard work and you lose your confidence. Fran has a bad time, then things pick up miraculously again. Didn't add anything to the sum of human happiness
