Product Description

Mother-in-Law, Son-in-Law is the sexually explicit tale of lonely people trying to find happiness by daring to follow their hearts. Some people shout about finding the wild place, whilst others are quietly swimming in it... Kate married far too young. Now husband Alex, once the love her life, bores her to tears. He's so busy gardening and watching repeats of Top Gear on the tele, he would never guess about Kate's secret life with her lover Colin. But gardening and Top Gear can keep a man happy for only so long. Especially with a Mother-in-Law as voluptuous and gorgeous as Julia.

Love the book! I really enjoyed it and read it cover to cover very quickly. As soon as I started it, I didn't put it down until I'd finished it. Anything published by the author is almost always awful. Thank God this was the exception!

It is notoriously difficult to write about sex well. I don't think there are any other genres within a genre that get awards for bad writing apart from descriptions of sex in books.

I'm amazed that this is a first effort because it is very confidently written. I particularly liked the fact that Calvert-Toulmin didn't succumb to the temptation of punishing the Kate character for being such a brat; the resolving of her situation was both mature and realistic.

An excellent first novel in a genre that is daunting for a first-time author.
Another thing I absolutely adore is the frontispiece ex libris design - it's great! I wish other books did that.

I'm looking forward to reading My Adventures in Cyberspace now.

Ralph Razor - DJ, impresario and style warrior

A kitsch masterpiece.

One of those books that gets you looking at the receding thickness with disappointment!

hellenlygstad – Norway

Forget Anais Nin - read Jude Calvert-Toulmin!

In addition to writing about sex in a way that makes you want sex, and to read the story over again, this book has got what most other erotic stories lack: a good story and a good storyteller.

Yes, the book is full of sex. Good sex. Delicious sex, even.

You know those bad sex awards for writers? Well Jude Calvert-Toulmin won't be getting one any time soon. Sex scenes are notoriously difficult to write, but the ones in this novel are detailed, heartfelt and believable. It was a fast read and hard to put down even for someone who doesn't normally read this kind of novel. If you do read this kind of book you will love it.

Brenhines y Cathod - North Wales

What I loved most about MILSIL - apart from a plot with which I could identify (how relationships can become stale over time) - was how believable the characters were.

The book is lots of fun, and like other reviewers have said, I'd like to see it made into a film. A highly believable story, real-life characters, and the sex scenes were very realistic, especially the phone sex chapter which reminded me of my own experiences years ago...

J.Hewitt - Scotland

Really well written and will drive you nuts for sex. If you haven't read a provocative book then you'll be in for a real treat.

Singsing - England

When's the film out? Great fun and would make an excellent holiday book - although read it in trunks on the beach at your peril gentlemen! Ahem...

fanny mae - UK

Fabulous, funny, horny and witty. If ever a book was written to get onto the big screen this is it. It is hot, spicy and erotic and fills a void in contemporary publishing...the literary version of viagra.

misha -Yorkshire

The characters in it are real and credible, and having dated a Yorkshire man in the past I was warmed by Matt with his conversation in phonetic format.

My husband, it has to be said was happy with my purchase also, as I dragged him to bed after reading sections on more than one occasion!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Double Barrelled 24 guage fully oiled sexgun!!, 5 Dec 2010
This perhaps wouldn't normally be my a-typical genre of reading range, but on recommendation of a friend I took the plunge and clicked it to my door.
From start to finish I was engaged with this book.
Jude has a unique writing style which like any good author pulls you into thier world; she then leave's you there as a semi-respectable voyeur, longing to be part of the ongoing wild fantasy.
This book ticks all of those boxes, and would in reality, provided your mother in law is as hot as hell. Having said that you kind of wish it all didn't happen in a way, and that things worked out 'better', but that's how the story goes, & I won't spoil it.
It is graphic without being gross, engaging in content, and one of those books that gets you looking at the receding thickness with disapointment!
That would be my only critisism, also perhaps she could have elaborated a little more the story line and the depth of the characters could be better explored.
I read a lot and usually have several books on the go, I must say this one got my undivided attention.
I enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoy cooking with good olive oil, ( you will have to read it to understand.) Also one thing that I noticed was how well bound and printed the book is, on brilliant white thick pages, and good type face, something that cannot be said for many books I read.
Having said that it wouldn't matter what it was written on ....part 2 must be coming..I hope...

4.0 out of 5 stars Forget Anais Nin - read Jude Calvert-Toulmin!, 5 Jan 2011
There are many erotic stories/books, the majority of them being boring or/and embarrassing to read, not because it's about sex, but because they are so badly written that sex is the last thing you want after you've read them.
This is not one of them. In addition to writing about sex in a way that makes you want sex, and to read the story over again, this book has got what most other erotic stories lack: a good story and a good storyteller.
This is not an easy thing to do, it takes a courageous woman to write a book like this.

The main character, Julia, is a widow after many years in an idle marriage. Her son-in-law, Alex, and her daughter, Kate, are on their side sick and tired of each other, equally sexually frustrated. Alex still have feelings for Kate, but she has changed into something hard he doesn't recognise, and they are unable to communicate anymore. Although Alex tries, they cannot be in the same room. Like many of us, they just let everything go on and on, fearing the needed confrontation. We immediately become Julia's best friend, we're frustrated by her selfish daughter, irritated by her son-in-law and his fear of confrontation - but with much sympathy with him.

Kate tells her mother about her frustrations, which puts Julia in the strange position of being an understanding, helpful mother - and attracted to her daughter's husband, having sexual fantasies about him. He, in turn, also turns to Julia for understanding and help. He's in love with her, he finds the warmth and understanding in Julia that he's missed in his marriage.

Writing about sex is difficult. Try it if you like! In stead of the usual, technical litany about what you can do with a body, the author manages to describe sex without being embarrassing. She goes - THANK GOD! - straight to the point. She is a good storyteller, the characters get so close to the reader that we "know" exactly what they look like, the way they talk, move - think. Her descriptions of the characters makes reading the book almost like watching a movie.

Julia and Alex runs in circles, "smelling" each other, unbearably long also for the reader, and when they finally have sex we want to scream out an orgasmic "Yes! YES! YES!!", like Meg Ryan in "When Harry met Sally" - only we're not faking it. They SO deserve to be together!

We follow Kates way in and out of marriage, meeting a new man, her rage when she's told about Alex' relationship with her mother. Kate is an unpleasant aquaintance, she irritates me so much I don't want anything good for her. But the author doesn't fall for the temptation to punish her - and since we are Julias best friends, we agree.

Yes, the book is full of sex. Good sex. Delicious sex, even.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality erotic fiction., 14 Feb 2012
By
Julie (Lucerne, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
I read Jude's second novel, "My Adventures in Cyberspace" years before I read this book and that one is a much longer, more substantial, moving and in depth work which I highly recommend. (See my other reviews.) I don't normally read erotic fiction but was curious to see how different this book would be compared to her other book. So I finally went ahead and bought this one and gave it a read. It is indeed completely different and holds true to its genre in being light, highly erotic reading.
The sex scenes are the highlights, as they should be in a book promoted as such. If you're looking for something to inspire and arouse you and your partner in that department then I reckon this book would do it for most people. Of course everyone's sexual preferences are different, so fair enough, there will be some people who don't get turned on by it. I think you can get a fairly good idea from the number and quality of positive reviews on here that most people really enjoyed this book, to put it mildly, myself included. Personally, it was as if the author was able to see inside my mind, understand my thoughts about sex and the sort of things that turn me on and then put them into words for my reading pleasure. Not bad at all! Sure there's a nice, light story in it too to give it some structure. So interspersed between the exciting chapters, suddenly it's the next day and a character is on the train, having a serious conversation etc. This back and forth between the mundane and the juicy parts is a bit like when you and your lover are getting really into it and the phone rings, it's your boss, you hang up and then have to get back in the mood. To be honest I actually skipped over the less exciting passages more than once and jumped straight on to the next hot chapter. So yes, I may have lost the plot at times but quite enjoyed this book!
