Product Description

Product Description

As Spring approaches, Mother Earth wakes her sleepy children, deep below the earth, the children yawn and stretch. Soon their hands are busy, stitching new clothes in bright spring colours. The dust of the bumblebees, scrub the beetles and paint splendid new coats on the ladybirds. The children jubilantly emerge from the earth where they become the flowers of Spring. In rhyming verse and vibrant illustrations, this entrancing story touches on such themes as the rejuvenation and passing of the seasons, helping children understand the circle of life.

About the Author

Sibylle von Olfers is the author of the original German folk tale, Etwas von den Wurzelkindem, which sold 800,000 copies in 1906 and exactly a century later Sieglinde Schoen Smith's quilted interpretation, Mother Earth & Her Children won the top prize at America's most prestigious quilt show. Jack Zipes, an acknowledged expert on folklore, has translated the text.

Beautifull 15 April 2008
Format:Hardcover
It's a lovely book. Based on a soul-touching story. All images are amazing. My three year old child loves to see these hearth children taking care of the insects. It's really worth to buy.

beautiful 5 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
For non-cristians this is a special way to celebrate the equivalent of easter/spring/christmas/winter with gentel pictures, easily understood by young children, and especially enjoyable for grandmothers to read out loud.

This is a wonderful story, about the changing seasons, about children taking care of nature's creatures, and gives children a sense of the goodness of nature and the world. The illustrations are fabulous, really rich and the attention to detail is lovely. If you only buy one book for that special child in your life, make it this one. The story and pictures make children and adults want to come back to it again and again, throughout the year and throughout a child's development. I can't praise this book highly enough.
